Local residents in Alfold joined together to discuss flooding issues in the village, as well as general infrastructure points with Angela Richardson MP earlier today.
Alfold has got planning permissions agreed that would mean it doubling in size. But at the moment, its current infrastructure - sewerage, flood alleviation and electricity - is struggling to cope. People's homes are being affected by power cuts and low voltages that make doing cooking and other tasks slow and by the backing up of waste water in pipes that cannot cope.
Angela will be writing to UK Power Networks to follow up on discussions I had with them in the summer about Alfold. Similarly she will be speaking with Thames Water about the situation in the village, as well as encouraging them to communicate with residents.
A date will also be set for the next Alfold Flood Forum, which will be renamed to reflect a wider remit of resilience and infrastructure. Waverley Council has decided to build in Alfold and seems to believe that these issues will be sorted out by someone else, or by other developments nearby.
