Angela writes: "I am so very sad to hear of the death of my friend Andrew Hodges, someone whose passing robs Guildford of one of its greatest servants.
"Andrew was a councillor for many years, Mayor of Guildford and later Leader of the Council - he was subsequently honoured cross-party by the council as an Honorary Freeman of the Borough, an office that very few are given.
"His years of service were not just to the council but to countless voluntary and charitable groups to which he freely gave his time and effort, all of whom will miss his skill, humour and talent for getting things done.
"I only saw him recently to discuss Guildford and national politics and he remained on very fine form.
"A huge, irreplaceable loss to the fabric of our town and he leaves behind an enormous number of people on whose lives he made a mark. We remember him with fondness and a smile on our faces."
