Angela Richardson visited Burpham last week to see for herself problem flooding spots in the area at the request of the local Flood Action Group.
Angela is the chair of all the flood forums across Guildford constituency in Worplesdon, Burpham, Cranleigh and Alfold. These forums seek to bring together residents, borough and county councils, the Environment Agency and other bodies to hear about the issues and find solutions on flooding issues.
Angela has been an outspoken critic of ill-maintained pipes that waste precious water and cause misery to residents.
Last week she visited culverts at Merrow Lane and London Road and heard from local campaigner Jim Allen about the issues along the Wey Navigation.
Angela said: “Tackling flooding issues is part of my plan for Guildford. It is a key issue that if left unchecked can cause huge inconvenience, cost and stress for residents. Our local authorities and regulated industries have a responsibility to act promptly and properly to address concerns.
“Flood Forums have an important role in holding water companies and council to account and I’m delighted to chair and lead on them. The Burpham Flood Forum has a robust and detailed Action Plan and it was great to have the opportunity to see for myself the points in that Action Plan on the ground.
“I want to thank everyone involved and encourage the councils and other stakeholders to remain engaged in these forums. Working together, there is no reason that flooding issues cannot be tackled before they become an issue.”
