Over the past month, I have visited the Lockwood Centre in Slyfield Green Industrial Estate twice to meet Craig Hills, Chairman of the recently launched local campaign group, Lockwood Regeneration Consortium (LRC), among other members, to discuss Guildford Borough Council’s (GBC) plans to knock down this popular community asset and replace it with a temporary car park.
During my visit, we discussed the launch of the ‘Save Our Centre’ campaign which aims to help the facility realise its potential and benefit communities across Guildford. This campaign, which I am proud to support, seeks for the centre to serve local people, including SEND & Disability Services, and become an affordable hub for creative industries and innovative start-up businesses. This is a great opportunity for the Lockwood Centre to host a range of vital services.
Craig told me that he has been overwhelmed with requests from local people, businesses and community organisations for spaces and opportunities to get involved in the regeneration of the venue.
