Angela spoke in a Westminster Hall debate on a statutory duty of care for higher education students.
Whilst Angela welcomes the support that the Government has given to the university sector to support mental health, her view is that the demand for a statutory legal duty of care for university students is reasonable.
Angela would like to pay tribute to the families present in the House and around the country who have campaigned selflessly on this issue. This includes Dr Mark Shanahan from the University of Surrey, who so sadly lost his son Rory to suicide and she would like to thank him for sharing his heartfelt story with me.
It is important that the issue of mental health support for our young people right is approached correctly and Angela looks forward to hearing of the steps being taken by the Government and universities. The Minister has said he is not closing the door to further legislation if needed.
