Today marks the first King’s Speech in 70 years. On this historic day, His Majesty King Charles III delivered his first Kings Speech, outlining the Government’s priorities for the year ahead.
His Majesty announced our long-term plans to deliver on the people’s priorities and a brighter future for everyone across our United Kingdom and communities in Guildford. Rather than taking easy, short-term decisions that governments of all colours have in the past, Rishi Sunak's Government is focussing on making the right long-term decisions to safeguard our future prosperity.
We are safeguarding our economy by easing the cost of living, reducing inflation and public-sector debt, reducing reliance on volatile energy markets, and taking advantage of our Brexit freedoms. We are introducing regulations to help technology thrive in the UK, empowering new technologies, including machine learning and driverless cars.
Society is being strengthened by the creation of a smoke-free generation and the introduction of the Advanced British Standard, which brings technical and academic routes into a single qualification. We are also empowering leaseholders with greater rights and protections.
We are safeguarding communities by strengthening our police, introducing tougher sentences for serious offenders, keeping communities safe from anti-social behaviour, and delivering on the Illegal Migration Act.
We are also promoting our national interests by supporting the cause of peace and stability in the Middle east, championing security around the world, supporting Ukraine and strengthening NATO and ensuring Artificial Intelligence (AI) is delivered safely.
By taking the right long-term decisions, I’m confident that today’s announcements will safeguard the future prosperity of communities in Guildford.
