The Children’s Hospice Grant, which is an important stream of funding for hospices across the country, was previously due to expire in 2023/24.
However, thanks to the tireless campaigning of Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, I understand that the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has made a verbal commitment to extend the grant into 2024/25.
I visited Shooting Star’s Children’s Hospice in Guildford in November 2023 and I saw the difference that this grant has made and the incredible care that it supports them to deliver.
Yesterday, I wrote to Helen Whately MP, Minister for Social Care, to enquire as to whether the Department will commit to extending the Grant further.
Extending the Grant would be overwhelmingly welcomed by children’s hospices across the country, including Shooting Star, to whom the nurses and carers I pay enormous tribute.
