Angela Richardson had a great time visiting Sayers Croft in #ewhurst yesterday to see children of all ages enjoying the holiday activities and food programme provided by the Department for Education. Following successful pilots between 2018 and 2020, the programme was rolled out to all upper tier local authorities in 2021 with £200million for the next three years.
Research has shown that the school holidays can be pressure points for families. For some children this can lead to a holiday experience gap, with children from low-income households being less likely to access organised out-of-school activities; more likely to experience ‘unhealthy holidays’ in terms of nutrition and physical health; and more likely to experience social isolation.
Angela said: "Huge thanks to all the staff at Sayers Croft as well as the The Sayers Croft Trust for being part of the programme and everything they do to enrich so many young lives. The food boxes given out were a great assortment of fresh fruit, vegetables and great recipes - fun to create at home in themselves as well as all the fun during the day."
