On 11th January 2023, I visited Alfold having been made aware of sewage issues near the sports club and around the village.
I’ve simultaneously been in touch with Thames Water and the Alfold Parish Council about this issue. Having contacted Thames Water, they are having a meeting next week to discuss this and they are reviewing the sewage issues.
This morning, I met Councillor Kevin Deanus, local county and borough councillor, and Ed McCudden, the Vice Chairman at Alfold Parish Council, at the sports club where sewage has leaked onto open playing fields.
They showed me where the sewage has been leaking through the manhole cover. Councillors believe that the ground is contaminated and that the pipe under the ground is broken; we could see where the ground has started sinking above the pipe.
This poses is a health risk for children playing in the field, dog walkers, and residents.
I know that sewage has been a long-standing issue in the village and it’s clear that the current state of the infrastructure isn’t working for residents. The capacity of the infrastructure is very important considering new developments under construction in the village.
It’s therefore important that Thames Water investigate the pipes underneath the fields and I am writing to them to request that they put cameras down the pipes to do so.
It was lovely to meet parish councillors at the sports and social club which is a Warm Hub.
I will keep residents of Alfold updated as the situation develops.
