Following my visit to the University of Surrey Campus last month to meet Sam, VP Support-elect at Surrey Students Union, and Amina, a student, following the appalling incident which occurred near the Campus, I have been following up on these concerns.
I have recently met Guildford Borough Commander Blaine Rafferty to discuss the matter further. I shared with Blaine the locations which many students believe require improved lighting to help deter criminal activity and help them feel safer going about their daily activities. I’m pleased that Blaine will be raising this with the Joint Action Group and I thanked him for his efforts to reassure students.
I have passed this info on to Surrey County Council and am in discussions with Surrey PCC about improved CCTV for Guildford.
Tackling violence against women and girls is a top priority for me and I will continue to pursue these matters on behalf of residents.
