Recently, I visited the former University of Law site at St Catherine’s on the outskirts of Guildford, to review the Elysian Planning Application to build eight blocks of flats and develop a multi-storey car park.
At the site, I met John Harrison, member of the Guildford Residents Association, who is rightfully concerned by the proposed hilltop development which falls within the green belt and conservation area, and Surrey Hills National Landscape (previously AONB). John kindly showed me the current designs and where the development would be situated.
Because the design does not meet the sensitivity requirements of its location, given the development would be located among our protected landscape, I have written to Guildford Borough Council to object to the proposal.
The current design does not reflect the character of traditional existing surrounding buildings, and it would require the removal of trees during the completion of the project which would make the buildings visible for miles.
I would encourage residents to review the proposed development (application reference 23/P/01850) and submit your comments via the Council’s website.
