Today is a very special day as the Eaves family begins the Walk For Pia in Billericay. Pia Eaves was a mum and wife, a fitness instructor and in the prime of life. Pancreatic Cancer is a terrible disease whose symptoms don't usually show until it has progressed; it has the worst survival rates of any common cancer.
When Pia died from Pancreatic Cancer in September last year, the wonderful family she left behind - Simon, Rhiannon and Emilia - were determined to do something to reflect her positivity and activity in life.
Pia loved Gavin and Stacey - she grew up in Barry and her family used to own the kiosk run by Marco in the show. The show cheered her up during some of her most difficult times and so to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK, they are walking the 200 miles from Billericay to Barry, the home towns of the main characters.
With more than £75,000 already pledged, this is a massive achievement and tribute to Pia. I'll be following and posting their progress and some of my colleagues have sent their good wishes as well.
If you can, please consider supporting this amazing Guildford family and their inspirational story by pledging to Pancreatic Cancer below. Pob lwc Simon, Rhiannon and Emilia!
